224 notesRoll into October with one of this month's most iconic symbols: pumpkins, of course! 🎃Did you know that pumpkins are fruits? The flowering plants that bear pumpkins are native to the Americas and are part of the family that includes watermelon, cucumbers, and zucchini. As angiosperms, pumpkin plants rely heavily on insects like bees to help transfer pollen from male flowers to female flowers. Pumpkins come in all sizes: In 2023, a whopping 2,749-pound (1,247 kg) pumpkin from Minnesota won the 50th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off at Half Moon Bay in California—and broke the record for the world’s heaviest pumpkin.
